Energy Analyst - IE01 (Lowell or Seattle)
Due to rapid growth, GEC is continuously adding Energy Analysts to our Energy Analysis group. Positions are available in Seattle, Washington, and Lowell, Massachusetts. Please specify which location you are applying to.

This position focuses on analyzing wind resource and other data to develop energy estimates for commercial wind energy projects. Potential work includes data validation, conducting modeling studies, estimating wind project output, selecting appropriate turbine models, designing turbine layouts, estimating energy losses, developing photo simulations, and performing other tasks in support of GEC’s consulting work. The successful candidate must be detail oriented and possess good communication skills. 

Requirements include engineering, mathematics, atmospheric science, or related degree. At least one year of practical experience, preferably in the wind energy industry, is required. Familiarity with industry software and wind resource assessment is a plus. The ability to write clear and accurate reports is essential.

Consulting Engineer - CS01 (Lowell or Seattle)
Position involves conducting site screening, site assessments, identifying viable wind development areas and resource monitoring locations, preparing preliminary and detailed feasibility studies, and preparing life-cycle engineering economic analysis. The following tasks will be required as part of managing specific projects: preparing technical content for RFPs related to turbine and contractor procurement; conveying knowledge of existing wind energy technology and market conditions to various government officials; preparing proposals; providing timely client communication; executing project scope items; anticipating project issues and developing appropriate resolutions; and monitoring project cost and schedule.

The successful candidate must have a sound engineering background and the ability to communicate technical concepts accurately in language appropriate for the client’s background. Since evaluating sites for potential wind energy development and client meetings are integral to this position, the ability to travel once or twice a month is expected. International travel is also possible. Technical curiosity and the demonstrated ability to provide analysis and recommendations supported by sound business economics are required.

B.S. in engineering (mechanical or electrical) and at least four years of experience in the wind energy industry is required. Consulting experience is considered a plus. The ability to write clear and accurate reports is essential.

Wind Power Project Engineer - IE02 (Lowell or Seattle)
The successful candidate will participate in and lead due diligence assessments of proposed and existing wind power facilities for potential investors. Responsibilities include reviewing and assessing technical risk in commercial contracts for the supply of wind turbines and operation and maintenance services, evaluating historic project energy and equipment availability data, evaluating projected operations and maintenance costs over the facility life, assessing turbine suitability to a particular site, and coordinating team inputs to reports. Other responsibilities also include assessing and reporting on conditions at existing projects, visiting and evaluating proposed sites for projects in development, and helping with other assigned tasks. A successful candidate will be able to communicate with clients on the impacts of various terms and risks of the contracts and site condition
s. Some overnight travel is required.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field and three years of experience required. Demonstrated experience in the energy industry, particularly with contract review, is desired. Experience with wind turbine technology and pro forma model review are also desired. Excellent oral/written communication skills and computer skills required.

Test Engineer - TM03 (Lowell or Seattle)
Due to rapid growth, GEC is continuously adding Test Engineers to our Testing and Measurements Group. Positions are available in Seattle, Washington, and Lowell, Massachusetts, although all new employees will need to train in Seattle. Please specify which location you are applying to.

Design, manage, implement and report on various tests and measurements of wind turbine equipment and meteorological measurement systems. Procure and/or fabricate mechanical test fixtures. Install and calibrate measurement systems in the field. Be responsible for quality of incoming data and troubleshoot measurement problems remotely and in the field. Analyze incoming data and report on findings per relevant standards and company practices.

Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills are required. Familiarity with wind power engineering, meteorological measurements, and electrical power measurements is beneficial but not required. Previous instrumentation experience is required. Experience with Campbell Scientific, Inc. data acquisition systems is a plus.

Must be able to work in confined spaces on towers up to 140 meters tall, lift 60 lbs, and have a valid driver’s license. Significant travel will be required.

Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or other engineering discipline preferred; scientific backgrounds with relevant experience will be considered. Two or more years of work experience preferred.

Field Technician - TM02 (Lowell or Seattle)
Due to rapid growth, GEC is continuously adding Field Technicians to our Instrumentation group. Positions are available in Seattle, Washington, and Lowell, Massachusetts, although all new employees will need to train in Seattle. Please specify which location you are applying to.

Field technicians work with project engineers and project managers to design, install, and maintain meteorological and engineering data acquisition systems for our clients on megawatt-scale wind projects throughout the U.S., Canada, and abroad. As a group, the technicians work with a wide variety of hardware and software and are regularly asked to develop systems that include unfamiliar sensor signals, new data acquisition systems, and communications protocols.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have a unique combination of technical skill and mechanical aptitude, are personable, and have a desire to apply all of these traits in a rugged environment. 

Typical responsibilities of the field technician include:

  • Assist with designing meteorological and engineering measurement systems that include sensor arrays, tower mounting schemes, data acquisition components, communications hardware, and small remote PV and wind power systems

  • Specify and order equipment for these systems

  • Assemble and install these measurement systems on towers ranging from 150 ft to 450 ft at remote sites in often inclement conditions

  • Troubleshoot and repair sensors, data loggers, and communications equipment remotely and on site

  • Research and test new and potentially promising sensors, data loggers, and other system components

  • Assist with project proposals, budgeting, and management of ongoing projects

  • Respond to client requests and communicate project status to other GEC staff as well as clients

  • Provide other technical and non-technical staff at GEC with equipment advice, troubleshooting assistance, and labor support

Experience/Skills Required:

  • A solid understanding of electrical circuits is required, including experience troubleshooting AC and DC circuits

  • Experience troubleshooting sensors with analog voltage and frequency outputs is essential

  • Experience with meteorological sensors, Campbell Scientific data loggers, and RF/cellular/satellite communications technology is beneficial but not required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and produce high-quality work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to train and advise non-technical staff on equipment installation and troubleshooting

  • Physical ability to safely climb towers up to 450 ft in height

  • Willingness to travel regularly, anywhere in the U.S. and overseas, on excursions of over one week

  • Valid driver’s license

Project Coordinator - Logistics - LG01 (Lowell or Seattle)
Due to rapid growth, GEC is continuously adding Project Coordinators to our Logistics group. Positions are available in Seattle, Washington, and Lowell, Massachusetts. Please specify which location you are applying to.

In this role you will schedule and coordinate wind measurement tower installations, including acting as a liaison between the installation crews, clients, vendors, and other related parties. Previous experience in the wind energy industry is not required. 

We are looking for someone who has at least two years of professional experience in scheduling, coordinating, or dispatching. Four-year college degree is preferred, ideally in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or related field; however, comparable experience will be considered.

You must be able to learn and understand technical information regarding the equipment (towers, data loggers, modems, etc.). Because a great deal of time is spent communicating with clients, vendors, and crew, excellent verbal and writing skills are required. This position requires a considerable amount of time on the phone as well as a large volume of e-mails. You must be able to deal with a variety of people in a courteous and professional manner. 

This position requires a quick learner who is able to multi-task and prioritize (there are many details to keep track of). You will be responsible for building relationships with new clients, crews, vendors, and other related parties and must take ownership of and responsibility for the various tasks and projects assigned to you. A strong ability to manage tasks is required, as is the flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to new issues and different tasks. Some overtime required.

This position requires proficiency in MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and the ability to learn new software.

Data Technician - DS01 (Lowell or Seattle)
